Elite Sports Nutrition Coaching, Built in the Lab and Proven on the Field

Rise Nutrition is a sports dietitian practice built on one conviction: athletes perform better when their nutrition is treated with the same rigor as their training. Our work is grounded in performance research and shaped by years inside elite sport environments — from university labs to professional locker rooms — and refined through hands-on coaching with athletes across every sport and level of competition.

We bridge the gap between what the science says and what actually works in the real world, where schedules are unpredictable, travel is constant, and generic plans fall apart by week two.

OUr Mission

Our mission is to help athletes fuel in a way that supports performance, longevity, and confidence — without rigid rules, short-term fixes, or plans that don't fit real life.

Too often, athletes are handed nutrition advice that looks good on paper but breaks down the moment training gets hard, travel disrupts the routine, or competition schedules compress. Our goal is to cut through the noise and provide clear, structured guidance that athletes can actually apply — and build on over time.

Every athlete we work with gets a fueling approach that evolves with their training demands and supports long-term development, not just short-term results.

How We Work

The Rise Nutrition Approach

Our approach translates performance research into real-world strategies that fit your sport, schedule, and goals. We explain the science in plain language so athletes understand not just what to do, but why it works — because athletes who understand their fueling make better decisions independently.

We prioritize health first, because sustainable performance is built on a strong foundation — not shortcuts. Every recommendation we make is grounded in current evidence, adapted to the athlete in front of us, and designed to hold up across a full season, not just a single game.

What makes our work different is that it has been shaped by actual experience inside elite performance environments — conducting research, not just reading it, and applying it in high-pressure settings where performance outcomes are real.

We translate research into real-world strategies that fit your lifestyle and goals.

We explain the science in plain language so you understand what you're doing and why it works.

We prioritize health first because you can't perform at an elite level without a strong foundation.

Meet the Team

Jay Short, MS, RD, CSSD — Founder & Lead Sports Dietitian

Jay Short is a Registered Dietitian and Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics with more than a decade of experience working inside elite performance environments. His background spans both performance research and applied sport nutrition — a combination that allows him to evaluate evidence critically and apply it practically, not theoretically.

Early in his career, Jay worked as a Research Dietitian at The Ohio State University Performance Lab, studying how nutrition, training, and recovery interact in competitive athletes. That foundation shapes how Rise Nutrition approaches every client — with the same evidence standards used in elite sport, adapted to the individual.

Since then, Jay has worked directly with athletes and teams at the professional, collegiate, and youth levels across multiple sports, helping translate science into fueling strategies that hold up in real training and competition environments.
